Pride Week at KLM

“Over the Rainbow” takes a brief look back at the programme:

• An inspiring event at KLM Headquarters: “Behind the Numbers” film screening and Remke Verdegem’s personal story ensured that Pride kicked off well this year. Besides the celebrations, Pride is also a protest, so an afternoon of content formed an important part of this year’s programme.
• With colleagues, they joined the Pride March from Amstelveld to Vondelpark on Saturday. Their large banner – including Albert Plesman’s “The ocean of the air unites all people” quote – attracted lots of attention.
• On Wednesday, they played Pride Bingo with over 30 elderly people at the Groenelaan nursing home. This nursing home has earned the “Roze Loper” (Pink Carpet) certificate, attesting to its inclusive environment where everyone can be themselves. Board member Jan provided a real show as bingo master. Each KLM staff member was paired with a resident for the game. E&M colleague Helen Assink, Programme Manager D&I E&M, attended and commented enthusiastically: “It was brilliant! Together with my buddy, we won some great prizes. But above all, we had loads of fun. In fact, my buddy said: ‘I’ve laughed so much I’ve lost my voice!’ I could relate to that.” Afterwards, they noticed that the residents returned to their rooms with a smile on their faces. That’s what they did it for!
• And the annual drinks reception at Brug34 was a great success. A packed terrace, where colleagues could catch up again while enjoying a drink and a snack.
• Finally, on Saturday, the moment the board had worked so hard for: the very first Delta-KLM boat sailed along with this year’s Canal Pride. What a party it was for KLM’s raffle winners and numerous Delta colleagues to sail through Amsterdam’s canals on board this beautiful boat.
