Inspire, inform and connect: KLM E&M’s notable presence during Jack’s Racing Day

Eight E&M colleagues recently singled out a unique event to attract new talent and showcase our beautiful blue during a major racing event in Assen. As a high-tech employer, we’re constantly looking for talented technical colleagues, who are willing to use their professionalism to apply themselves and raise the bar at KLM E&M.

Seeds were planted during the E&M Information Sessions held in June this year. The idea of attracting new people in this manner was raised then. Paul Dekker, Direct Support MRO Material – Engine Services, recalled a similar situation from the 1990s, where enthusiastic E&M staff members attended the “Marlboro Masters event” to recruit new talent. Paul stepped up and pitched his idea to Ton Dortmans. Ton thought it was a great idea and put Paul in touch with Stefanie Boers and Sander Schnater (Team Sourcing). The idea took concrete shape within three weeks thanks to the project team’s determination. Although the initial idea had to be elaborated, they saw the potential. An E&M graduate, who worked in motor sports, shared valuable connections. With the right parties in place, our colleagues were able to shape the initiative further. Close cooperation between Jack’s Racing Day and KLM E&M facilitated effective preparation for the event. The necessary technical and organisational steps were taken, with Parts Trading (Engine Services) contributing by making tear-down engines available for the event. The ultimate goal was twofold; to inform and inspire. The event was intended to make people aware of KLM E&M’s activities as well as inspiring potential candidates to join the blue family. A number of promising candidates showed interest in contacting the recruitment department for a possible position within E&M. Apart from the candidates, the event also generated spin-off benefits. Afterwards, E&M came to the conclusion that it should participate in more events – in the broadest sense – to inspire and motivate its target audience. To add a fun, interactive element and increase audience engagement, the participants could test their knowledge in an educational contest each day. A winner emerged each day who was sent a model aircraft after the event. E&M was boldly represented at Jack’s Racing Day. Together, we not only attracted new talent but also increased the visibility of E&M, sparking enthusiasm for the airline industry. The initiative shows how innovative approaches can lead to positive results by attracting talent and strengthening connections across a broader audience.
