E&M in action
FAQ's - Fleet Choice A350
What are the potential consequences for KLM E&M? In the run-up to phasing-in the new aircraft type, it will be necessary to define the activities and tasks for KLM E&M. In the forthcoming period, we will continue to outline what this choice means, especially for the work to be carried out by the larger units. You have already read more about this above. Here’s an initial overview of EPCOR’s direction.
How will this affect EPCOR? AFKL’s work will end for the A330 and B777-200. The exclusive licensing rights for APU maintenance for the A350 have been given to Lufthansa technics.
A great deal will be changing at Airframe in the years ahead. What impact will this have? Fleet renewal will have an impact at Airframe and its feasibility will therefore be challenged, especially from 2024 to 2029. This will be because of factors including:
• More aircraft types, temporarily increasing complexity;
• Extra licensed technicians and instructors needed temporarily for training capacity;
• A large phasing-in/phasing-out programme regarding the number of fleet types and technical licences;
• Retirement wave from 2026 requiring accelerated recruitment of new (inexperienced and experienced) employees.
When will work on the A330 and B777 components/engines stop?
Once the AF and KL fleet is phased out, this will depend on the third-party market and having the necessary MRO licences. It’s difficult at this stage to predict how this will develop.
