Divide and conquer: the importance of waste separation
KLM has set the goal of reducing residual waste by 50% by 2030 compared to 2011. To achieve this objective, we had to create insights into our residual waste first. Therefore, at the beginning of this year a waste scan was performed by emptying 6 large containers in H11, and it was found that 50% of the waste in the residual waste bins could have been recycled. This means we can significantly reduce our residual waste, if we are able to separate our waste correctly. Since we are currently falling behind target, the time is now to take action. See the video below to learn about our residual waste program, what we did so far and what are the next steps!
Recycle myth: Separating waste at E&M does not make sense since all waste bags end up in the same bin!
Myth! The waste bags do end up in the same bin when the bins are emptied. However, this is only during transportation. Afterwards, the bags are moved to their corresponding bins/containers. You can also view this process in the video!
