Dear colleagues, Most of you have already heard the news by now. After serving as the Executive Vice President at KLM Engineering & Maintenance (KLM E&M) for 13 years, the time has come for me to bid farewell to this esteemed position. Following 40 years with KLM, I will officially retire in the summer of 2025. As of January 1, 2025, I will hand over my role as EVP KLM E&M to Mathieu Essenberg, currently EVP Hub Operations. Read more here. Since the announcement of my departure, I have been overwhelmed by the numerous emails, phone calls, WhatsApp and LinkedIn messages I have received. I want to thank everyone for the kind words. They mean a lot to me, thank you all. Despite such an announcement, our operations continue as usual. At the beginning of October, we announced the 'Back on Track' program to improve KLM's operational and financial performance in the short term. This extensive improvement program requires the commitment of the entire company and is crucial because KLM's future depends on it. Information sessions have been organized within the divisions and business units, and management has begun working out the measures. We have done the same with the E&M Top 60. We can provide an update on this in November. Maarten van der Lei, with over 25 years of experience at KLM, has been appointed as the Program Manager for the 'Back on Track' improvement program. KLM E&M is actively recruiting technical talent. Our goal is to attract 200-250 (qualified) technicians by 2025. This is a key focus point within our E&M battles (Enough skilled people) and forms an important part of our 'Back on Track' improvement program, where we aim to restore our operational network capacity. By deploying E&M Social Ambassadors, we recently started recording TikTok videos at KLM E&M to enthuse young people about a career in technology at KLM. The first recordings at Engine Services took place last Friday, and more videos will follow. Additionally, Team Sourcing, Recruitment, and various other departments within KLM E&M are jointly organizing a low-threshold event, the E&M Job Fair, on 30 November, where potential candidates can get to know KLM as a technical employer. You can also play a role in this. Read more about it in the E&M Scope. Last week, the Grand Opening of Checkpoint Charlie took place in Hangar 11, Bay 3. Checkpoint Charlie has been transformed into an inspiring environment where efficiency and collaboration are central. View the photos and read the report in this E&M Scope. This week, MRO Europe 2024 is taking place on October 23 and 24 in Barcelona. Besides me, Martijn de Vries, VP Engine Services, and sales colleagues from AFI KLM EMCO will be present. This is another important event for AFI KLM E&M, where significant meetings with our customers, OEMs, MROs, suppliers, and other aviation-related organizations will take place. Both potential and existing customers will see what we can do and how we distinguish ourselves from the competition. Soon you can read more about it. Finally, I am still here for a while but will begin preparing for a smooth transition to Mathieu. Alongside this, I will focus with AFI KLM E&M (Anne Brachet, EVP AFI KLM E&M) on OEMs and the Supply Chain (Parts), which, along with People and Processes, are the three main drivers of our success. Kind regards,
