ES' core values in practice: ownership, flexibility and collaboration
Within Engine Services (ES), core values are often emphasized in the ES newsletter and in episodes of ES-TV, but they also regularly appear on team banners or are discussed during team sessions. But how does ES actually apply these values in practice?
The ES canteen A lot has changed in the ES canteen in recent months. Not only has the range been tackled, but the appearance of the canteen has also been given a major makeover. The start of the adjustments was accompanied by an allocated budget and a beautiful design. Ownership Incidentally, the canteen needed the necessary maintenance, which meant that the budget set was not entirely sufficient for the design. In order to realise the design and give the canteen the makeover it deserved, something extra was needed. After a call for help in making a contribution, several teams stood up to make part of their €5,000 team budget available for the makeover. This so that they can sit more comfortably in the canteen, where they have lunch every day, together with ES colleagues. That is now 'Ownership'. Just like the colleagues from ES Support; Jacqueline, Evelien and Jacky, who have taken on the full care of the beautiful plants. “Just do it yourself, because it feels like they are ‘my’ plants,” as they literally said. Flexibility In order not to unnecessarily increase the costs, they were creative in tackling the furniture. The canteen had good quality chairs that could do with a makeover. Thanks to a great revision program from the supplier, ES had the chairs refurbished. This turned out to be not only cheaper than buying new chairs, but also sustainable. The chairs have now been given a new lease of life and are once again comfortable under the buttocks. In addition, the other furniture was examined. The planters did not quite fit in with the new look and feel. We wondered whether these could also be adjusted, and whether we could do this ourselves. Fortunately, Surface Treatment offered to provide the planters with a new color, provided the work allowed it and the hours were favorable. Whether it concerns engine parts or canteen furniture, flexibility is the strength of ES. Speaking of flexibility, the canteen can now be used for multiple purposes. In addition to eating a meal, space has now been created for flexible working, having a good conversation, giving presentations or just relaxing. The canteen has therefore become multifunctional. Collaboration The entire process took a lot of time and patience. The ES employees were put to the test during the closure of the canteen. Lunch was served in a creative way elsewhere in the building and the MT offered an alternative because the canteen had no facilities. Decisions had to be made about the photos on the wall: do we choose airplanes and engines or a neutral Dutch landscape? In addition, the window decoration was removed. These are just a few examples of the 'invisible work' in which several colleagues voluntarily offered their help. Thanks to the good collaboration, the ES colleagues have succeeded in adapting the canteen to the current trend again after twenty years. It has once again become a place that is becoming increasingly busy and pleasant, where people meet each other and the sound of satisfied visitors can be heard.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone in the entire ES chain who contributed to this project in any way. Together we have achieved this! I really enjoyed doing this together with you. Rene Heynemans
