Dear colleagues, While many colleagues are enjoying a well-deserved holiday, our operations are running at full speed with the remaining colleagues and several noteworthy events have taken place over the past few weeks. For instance, on 15 July we celebrated World Youth Skills Day with six young E&M employees, on 18 July, RTL Nieuws visited Engine Services to make a report on the rise of robotics within our maintenance division in which colleague Jaïro Hernandes (ES) was interviewed and on 31 July De Telegraaf came by to interview E&M colleagues Erik Toet (Airframe) and Andre Fonken (ES) for a story about the colleagues involved in the introduction of the A321neo. We also celebrated the low deferred defect (DD) figures with as many as 1,300 Airframe colleagues with an enjoyable rice table. In addition, we achieved record performance at Wide Body with A Checks in Hangar 11. These are all great developments that make us feel justifiably proud. Mid July, a number of appointments were announced within AFI KLM E&M and Air France Industries. Effective 1 September 2024, several management appointments will be made within the AFKL E&M Group and at Air France Industries. Michael Grootenboer, currently SVP Group Engines Product, will be appointed SVP Group Procurement. Michael will be succeeded by Jean-Louis Forest, currently SVP Engine Services at Air France Industries. Bruno Tricoire, currently SVP Group Components Product, will replace Jean-Louis as the head of engine activities (counterpart of Martijn de Vries, VP Engine Services KLM E&M) at Air France Industries. You can read more about these appointments elsewhere in this edition. Finally, AFI KLM’s quarterly and half-year results were presented on Thursday, 25 July. The KLM Group generated an operating loss of €31 million in the first half of 2024. While revenues were higher than in the same period last year, high costs caused results to lag. Without adopting appropriate measures, this situation will not improve. KLM will therefore critically assess its investments, cost savings and opportunities to generate greater revenues. KLM will come up with new measures after summer. Read more about this in the CEO update by Marjan Rintel. In the E&M Scope Special you can read more about KLM E&M’s Q2 2024 financial results. We have joined forces to work on our recovery and are therefore on the right track. Unfortunately, the high non-performance costs resulting from disruptions in the supply chain, the labour market and our own internal processes are still impacting our financial results negatively. We will therefore have to come up with additional measures. Only by working together can we ensure that our financial results improve and that we achieve our objectives. Together we are E&M! Best regards,
