Inspiring collaboration between the Wheel shop and Line Maintenance Schiphol A visit with impact
On Wednesday 20th November, wheel shop colleagues visited Line Maintenance Schiphol (LMS). This visit was all about cooperation and tackling a safety issue that has been around for years: ‘unserviceable wheels under pressure’. This issue requires constant attention and improvement.

The problem of high tyre pressure
Aircraft wheels are under a huge pressure of over 200 psi to cope with the impact of landing. When tyres are replaced, they should be deflated to a minimum pressure of about 50 psi, as prescribed in the ‘aircraft maintenance manual’. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen, posing risks during transport and maintenance. Joint efforts for safety
Since summer 2024, CS has been working with LMS to solve this safety issue. Sessions have been organised with LMS, CS Repair and Central Engineering to explore new methods for safely releasing tyre pressure. LMS has also taken actions to raise awareness of the risks among mechanics and AMTs at Schiphol Centre, leading to visible improvements in the wheel process. Inspiring visit At the end of November, some of our wheel shop colleagues had the opportunity to take a look at the process at LMS and see the improvements that had been implemented. It was inspiring to experience how seriously LMS is tackling this problem and to see the effects of their efforts. Thanks to our colleagues Thanks to all colleagues involved, especially Johan (Mechanic) and Henk (CIL) for their welcoming reception and openness. Your commitment and cooperation are an example to us all. Keep up the good work, and let's keep working together!
