Working after Dutch state pension (AOW) age
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and the ground trade unions have agreed in the latest CAO (collective labour agreement) that, under certain conditions, it will be possible for KLM employees to continue working at KLM after their state pension age. This option will be available from 1 September.
A number of conditions apply to this option. One of these is that the employee continues to work in the same job in which the state pension age is reached, or a job role that is directly related to the last job held in terms of knowledge and skills. In addition, there must be a vacancy for the position that is difficult to fill or for which there are very limited opportunities to train someone. In this case, the manager will generally take the initiative, but the employee can also indicate that he or she would like to continue working after reaching the state pension age.
How does it work? The original employment contract ends when the state pension age is reached. A new fixed-term employment contract is concluded, subject to some different rules. For example, pension premiums and unemployment insurance premiums will no longer be deducted from the new fixed-term contract. Furthermore, in case of illness, salary is not paid for two years, but six weeks. For the calculation of anniversaries and IPB facilities, the first date of employment (minus any intervals) is used.
