Dear colleagues, As you may have read in the CEO update from Marjan Rintel, our company is going through a difficult time. Last Friday, we shared an E&M Scope Special about the Improvement Program 'Back on Track' and the contribution of KLM E&M. Click here to read the E&M Scope Special. SMS is short for Safety Management System, which outlines responsibilities, identifies and minimizes safety risks within the company as much as possible, conducts audits, provides employees with appropriate training, and facilitates communication about safety. From 2 December 2024, EASA will require all Part 145 and Part 21-certified companies in Europe to have an SMS. This also includes KLM E&M. What this means for employees and managers can be read below in more detail in the E&M Scope. In light of the significance of this topic, we will pay extra attention to various components of our SMS in future editions.
On 10 and 11 September, Aero-Engines Europe 2024 took place at the iconic Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam, with AFI KLM E&M as the proud main sponsor and host. With a record number of 682 visitors from the aviation sector, the theme ‘Navigating the Future’ took centre stage, in which cooperation, sustainability and efficiency were paramount. An exclusive MRO facility tour at Engine Services gave 100 participants a unique look behind the scenes. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this event. Read more about this in this E&M Scope. AFI KLM E&M also attended MRO Singapore on 25 and 26 September, an event that attracted more than 5,000 visitors, 200 global exhibitors and 50 prominent speakers. It was a successful event with numerous meetings with both current and potential customers. During MRO Singapore we announced that AFI KLM E&M has signed a five-year contract with Cambodia Airways for component support for the Airbus A319 and A320 fleet, as well as on-wing support for the CFM 56-5B engines. In addition, AFI KLM E&M and Philippine Airlines successfully performed the first ‘On-Wing’ fan module swap of a CFM56-5B engine in the PAL Express hangar. These developments are promising and contribute to the future of AFI KLM E&M. Two weeks ago I visited Collins in Boston together with Dominik Wiener-Silva, VP Component Services and Benoît Rollier, VP Engineering. We gained valuable insights and had important discussions. Our goal was to critically evaluate and improve the reliability of component delivery and our supply chain. We hope that this interaction will positively boost our relationship with Collins so that we can jointly achieve and strengthen our goals. Finally, it will be clear to everyone after the announcements on Thursday and Friday that there is serious work to be done. Although it's not a pleasant message, we have no choice. Tough times are ahead with difficult discussions and complicated choices. It is a huge challenge, but I believe we can do this together. We are doing this for all of us and for the future of KLM, because together we are KLM and KLM E&M. Discuss with your team how you are going to contribute to this. We need to make trade-offs in our choices. This will always be difficult because certain activities will temporarily cease, but the program will help us with this. Let's turn this situation around together. This way, we will get Back on Track. Thank you for your commitment. Take good care of yourself and each other. We are E&M! Kind regards,
