E&M and our people

KLM Tech Training Centre

In the heart of the Netherlands, hidden between the busy runways of Schiphol, there is a place where aviation dreams come true: the KLM Tech Training Centre. This is not just a training facility; it is a beacon of innovation and technical excellence.

What is the KLM Tech Training Centre? The KLM Tech Training Centre is a place where the aviation professionals of tomorrow are trained, armed with the knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of the future. In a constantly shifting world, one thing remains constant: the KLM Tech Training Centre’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in aviation.

By developing tailor-made training courses for the various departments within E&M, the centre ensures that KLM’s fleet is always in top condition. Under the leadership of Michel Vermeij, Director Training E&M also KLM Tech Training Centre Unit Leader, this department can be divided into four groups, with each group being an indispensable link in the SPL/GK chain, as the department was often called. The department consists of Support, Development, Educators and Instructors.

Support At Support, Front Office staff are on hand every day to provide the necessary assistance to students and instructors. In addition to the Front Office, the Back Office employees are responsible behind the scenes for purchasing training courses from external training companies and selling training courses to external parties. The Back Office is also responsible for planning the requested training courses and deploying the designated instructors.

Development Development is the beating heart of innovation within the KLM Tech Training Centre. These creative minds develop and update training programmes to ensure they align with the latest industry standards and technological advancements. Whether it concerns new maintenance technology, sustainability training or advanced flight simulators, Development ensures that the centre always stays one step ahead.

Educators An often underestimated but crucial role within the KLM Tech Training Centre is fulfilled by the educators. These experts in learning processes and methodologies ensure that the training courses are not only strong in terms of content, but also pedagogically effective. Their contributions are essential to the centre’s success. Instructors And of course, no training centre would be complete without its instructors. These experienced professionals transfer their extensive knowledge and practical experience to the students. They provide hands-on training, guiding the technicians and engineers through complex scenarios and ensuring that each student achieves the highest level of technical competence. Their dedication and expertise are the backbone of the success of the KLM Tech Training Centre.

Using the latest learning methods and technologies

With the collaboration of these groups, the management team and the SPL/QA employees, the KLM Tech Training Centre uses the latest learning methods and technologies:

  • Flight simulators: For technicians, the centre offers realistic flight simulators that allow them to practice complex scenarios in a safe environment.
  • Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR): These technologies are used to train technicians in the maintenance of complex systems, allowing them to practice without the need for actual aircraft.
  • E-learning, Blended Learning and Distant Learning: Flexible learning options and applications that combine online courses with hands-on practical training, allowing students to learn at their own pace.

Sustainability plays a crucial role within the KLM Tech Training Centre in training technicians and engineers in environmentally friendly practices. Special courses focus on using sustainable fuels, reducing waste and implementing energy-efficient technologies. The KLM Tech Training Centre is really more than just a training institution; it is a community of passionate, enthusiastic professionals. Would you like to meet our colleagues from this department?
