Dear colleagues,

My name is Lorena Ruiz, BOG mechanic and SMS Safety Council South Ameria & Caribbean. Today, I want to share with you a great experience.

But, let me introduce myself, I am 31 years old, the most valuable thing in my life is my family, I enjoy cycling and reading. I am Mechanic Engineer, specialist in Health and Safety at work. I am a passionate for aviation, reason why I studied to be Aircraft Maintenance Technician and then I begin my journey in Safety Management System (SMS).

I enjoy understanding processes, the different parts of supply chains and elements involved, reason why Health and Safety at work and Safety Management System (SMS) are interesting topics to understand, because they are powerful tools to enhance organizations in all their areas.

Over the last weeks, I decided to go to the Netherlands to learn about Risk Management, Business Continuity, Information Security and Crisis Management techniques. Along with inspiring professionals with diverse expertise, experiences and amazing backgrounds.

This experience taught me the importance of assertive communication, resilience, staying up to date with new technologies, and understand how each department of a company contribute to generate improvement based on good practices, comprehension and commitment. I returned home with new perspectives, ideas, and with the strong desire to bring them to our blue family.

Additionally, I was able to discover beautiful places, learning about culture and reconnecting with amazing KLM friends and colleagues. Also, I had the pleasure to meet the awesome people of Schijvens team, nice moments that I will keep in my heart. I am truly grateful for this travel which strengthen my passion about live and profession.

I appreciate the opportunity to let me share with you, my experience. I invite you to believe and be resilient in your passions and desires, family and dreams are the fuel and determination is the way. I hope to be close to all of you through the fortification of our SMS as a tool to be safe and improve us!
